Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Kainchi Dham

Hartola to Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Kainchi Dham 1 hr 23 min (34.1 km)

In the year 1962, a significant moment unfolded when Maharajji summoned Shri Poornanand from Kainchi village. As Maharajji patiently sat on the parapet wall by the roadside, memories of their first encounter two decades earlier in 1942 filled the air. Their conversation turned to the surrounding area, as Maharajji expressed a desire to visit the site where Sadhu Premi Baba and Sombari Maharaj had once resided and conducted Yagyas. In a remarkable turn of events, the forest was cleared, and Maharajji commissioned the construction of a Chabootara, a rectangular platform that would encompass the Yagyashala. He reached out to the conservator of forests at that time and successfully acquired the necessary land on lease. The Hanuman temple now stands proudly atop this platform. As word spread, devotees began to flock from various places, leading to a vibrant series of bhandaras, kirtans, and bhajans. The Pran-Pratishtha ceremonies for the idols of Hanumanji and others were conducted on June 15th in different years. Today, June 15th is celebrated annually as Pratishtha Divas, drawing large crowds of devotees who come to Kainchi to receive Prasad. The influx of visitors and the accompanying vehicular traffic are so substantial that the district administration has implemented special arrangements to manage the flow. Consequently, alterations have been made throughout the complex to ensure smooth movement for all attendees. The Kainchi temple holds a unique and cherished significance in the lives of devotees. It is a place where Ram Dass and other westerners shared meaningful experiences with Maharajji. It is highly encouraged for all devotees to visit this temple at least once in their lifetime, as it stands as a testament to faith, community, and spiritual connection.
